I couldn’t wait to share this gift with you because it has three of my favorite things:  Cupcakes, wine and the Barefoot Contessa! Wouldn’t this make a great hostess gift, housewarming gift or birthday gift?

Can Thoughtful CEO, Chris Lynch, Survive The Zombie Apocalypse?

You’ll just have to read the book to find out! Chris’s childhood friend, Ryan Mecum, is the author of Zombie Haiku (amongst many other books) and chose Chris as the main character trying to survive the zombie uprising. Just how did Chris come to play such an integral role in the book? We asked Ryan this question and more in an email interview. 

So how did Chris come to be a part of your book?

Chris and I were elementary school friends.  As we grew into our teen years, our lives busied and we talked less and less.  Eventually, Chris moved out of Ohio and I lost contact with him. 

When I started writing the book, the world was a much larger place.  Social media was just starting to grow.  At the time, I had not spoken to Chris in a long time.  I needed a name for a character in my book, and I thought the name “Chris Lynch” was fitting for a few reasons. First, he was one of my only friends growing up that shared with me a mega-fan appreciation for horror films and all things creepy.  I thought nodding to him in my zombie book was a fitting wave back in time to the seeds of my childhood that influenced the creation of this book.  Secondly, I thought there was a slight chance that naming a character after Chris might eventually lead to me connecting with him again.  This eventually happened, which was a lot of fun.

Which came first: The zombies or the haiku?

My love of zombies came before my love of haiku.  However, the concept of writing gross haiku came before my concept of writing zombie haiku.

Tell us a bit about your life outside of writing

I have a wife and some kids who I like a lot.  I like pop culture and spend way too much time reading about it.  Movies, music, books, comics, pointless websites… I can’t get enough.  My full time job is with a Christian teenage outreach ministry called Younglife, which some think contradicts with my love of things creepy, gross and terrifying.  Those people obviously don’t remember high school.

What are you working on next?

A novel about sodapop salesmen.  I hope it will be better than it sounds.

Fall Smackdown- Apple vs Pumpkin!

I truly love autumn, and look forward to all things “fallish” including the comforting flavors and smells of apple and pumpkin. If I had to choose a favorite, thought, I’d probably pick pumpkin. I remember eating Pumpkin Pie ice cream at Baskin-Robbins as a kid, and I really love Pumpkin Spice Lattes. It’s a close call however, because my mom makes an amazing apple pie.
